Frank Darabont Returns to Filmmaking with “Stranger Things”
Frank Darabont, the acclaimed filmmaker behind classics like “The Shawshank Redemption” and “The Green Mile,” is making a comeback in the industry after a brief retirement. Darabont, who hinted at retiring back in 2021, has been confirmed to have directed two episodes for the final season of Netflix’s hit series “Stranger Things.”
According to reports, Darabont will helm episodes 3 and 5 of the eight-episode final season. This news comes as a surprise to many, as Darabont has not directed a feature film since 2007. The show creators, The Duffers, seem to have given Darabont a “lifeline” to make a comeback in the industry.
Darabont’s career has been marked by both critical acclaim and controversy. After leaving “The Walking Dead” due to disputes with AMC, Darabont ended up winning a lawsuit against the network and pocketing close to $200 million. Since then, he has worked on Hollywood blockbusters as a script doctor and created the short-lived series “Mob City.”
Despite his success, Darabont has struggled to get his passion projects off the ground due to a lack of interest from producers and studios. However, with his return to “Stranger Things,” there is hope that some of his long-awaited projects may finally see the light of day.
Fans of Darabont’s work are eagerly anticipating his return to the director’s chair and are hopeful that his involvement in “Stranger Things” will lead to more opportunities for the talented filmmaker. Stay tuned for more updates on Darabont’s comeback in the industry.
