Diane Kruger and Fatih Akin Join Forces Again for German Historical Film Amrum

Diane Kruger and Fatih Akin Reunite for German Period Drama “Amrum”

Diane Kruger and director Fatih Akin are teaming up once again for the new German period drama “Amrum.” The film, which began principal photography in Hamburg, follows a family living on Amrum Island in rural northern Germany in the final days of World War II. Based on the childhood memories of co-screenwriter Hark Bohm, the movie is a coming-of-age story of a 12-year-old boy and his best friend, played by Jasper Billerbeck and Kian Köppke.

Kruger plays the role of Tessa Bendixen, a farmer’s wife, alongside Laura Tonke, Matthias Schweighöfer, and Detlev Buck. Akin expressed his excitement for the project, calling it an “extraordinary mission” and a journey of uncovering dark family secrets.

The film is being produced by bombero international, Warner Bros. Germany, and Rialto Film, with a planned release in German cinemas next September. International sales rights have been acquired by Beta Cinema, who will be presenting the film at the Cannes Film Market.

Kruger and Akin previously worked together on the award-winning film “In the Fade,” and have discussed collaborating on other projects, including a TV mini-series on the life of Marlene Dietrich. Kruger also has another film premiering at Cannes this year, “The Shrouds,” a horror thriller directed by David Cronenberg.

Akin, known for his acclaimed films such as “Head-On” and “The Edge of Heaven,” is excited to bring “Amrum” to audiences and continue his successful partnership with Kruger.
