George Miller Teases Potential ‘Mad Max’ Prequel Story Following ‘Furiosa’
George Miller, the mastermind behind the iconic “Mad Max” franchise, is stirring up excitement among fans with news of a potential new installment in the series. Following the highly anticipated release of “Furiosa,” which promises a story unfolding over 20 years, Miller is now teasing another ‘Mad Max’ story set to take place right after the events of ‘Furiosa’ and a year before ‘Fury Road.’
During the extended production delays of ‘Fury Road,’ Miller had written a novella alongside the ‘Furiosa’ script. Now, he is in the process of turning that novella into a screenplay, revealing more about what happened to Max in the year leading up to ‘Fury Road.’
“In doing what we did in the preparation of Mad Max: Fury Road, we also wrote what happened to Max in the year before we encounter him in [that film],” Miller explains. “And as we get towards the end of [Furiosa], the chronology, basically, we had to see that Mad Max was lurking around somewhere because we do know what happened.”
The news of this potential new screenplay adds to the uncertainty surrounding the previously announced ‘Mad Max: Wasteland’ sequel to ‘Fury Road.’ With challenges in bringing back both Tom Hardy and Charlize Theron, who famously clashed on set during production, the focus now shifts to the next chapter in Max’s story.
Meanwhile, “Furiosa” is set to debut at Cannes this month, with rumors of a brief Max cameo that could pave the way for the next film described by Miller. As fans eagerly await the continuation of the ‘Mad Max’ saga, the future of the franchise looks brighter than ever.
