Edgar Lansbury, the Tony-winning producer and younger brother of legendary actress Angela Lansbury, has passed away at the age of 94. Known for his work on Broadway and in film, Lansbury leaves behind a legacy of successful productions and contributions to the entertainment industry.
Lansbury’s career included producing acclaimed works such as The Subject Was Roses, which won a Pulitzer Prize and a Tony Award for Best Play. He also worked on the popular revival of Gypsy starring his sister Angela Lansbury, as well as the musical Godspell.
Born in London in 1930, Lansbury came to the United States during World War II and eventually became a U.S. citizen. He studied art and worked as an art director before transitioning to producing for television and theater. Lansbury’s producing credits include a variety of Broadway and off-Broadway productions, as well as the 1977 film Blue Sunshine.
In his later years, Lansbury focused on his passion for painting and sculpture. He is survived by his second wife, artist Louise Peabody, his children, and his grandchildren.
