“Farming the Revolution Wins Best International Documentary at Hot Docs Festival”

Nishta Jain’s documentary “Farming the Revolution” made waves at the Hot Docs Canadian International Documentary Festival, taking home the best international feature documentary prize. The film showcases Indian farmers standing up against new laws, shedding light on their struggle and resilience.

The win at Hot Docs means Jain’s film is now eligible for consideration in the best documentary feature category at the Academy Awards, solidifying its impact and importance in the documentary film world.

Other notable winners at the festival included “Death of a Saint” receiving the special jury prize for international feature documentary, “The Weavers’ Songs” winning the best emerging international filmmaker trophy, and “The Soldier’s Lagoon” taking home the best Canadian feature documentary award.

Additionally, “Any Other Way: The Jackie Shane Story” received the special jury prize for a Canadian feature documentary, and “Standing Above the Clouds” won the best social impact documentary trophy.

The event was not without its share of drama, as the festival saw the departure of artistic director Hussain Currimbhoy and 10 programmers just before its kick-off. Despite the challenges, Hot Docs president Marie Nelson ensured a successful event, with 15 trophies being handed out at the ceremony in Toronto.
