FilmLA Reports Slow Recovery but Sees Positive Signs for Future

Slow Rebound for Filming in Los Angeles Post-Strikes: FilmLA Report

The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills castmembers Dorit Kemsley, Erika Girardi, Garcelle Beauvais, Sutton Stracke, and Kyle Richards are facing a slow return to filming in Los Angeles after the region was hit hard by Hollywood’s season of strikes.

According to a report from FilmLA, there has been a double-digit drop in television shoots compared to the same period last year, with filming in the category trailing its five-year average by more than 32 percent. The first full quarter after the strikes saw a 9 percent decline in shoot days, reflecting a significant slowdown in on-location production.

Factors contributing to the decline include reductions in content spend, series cancellations, and runaway production. FilmLA President Paul Audley stated that production is still slow and that crewmembers are still looking for work.

While there has been a decline in cast and crew jobs associated with film permits, there is optimism in the production levels for feature films. Movies such as Beverly Hills Cop 4, Atlas, and Lurker are getting tax credits to film in California.

However, the loss of commercial production to other jurisdictions remains a concern, as well as the decline in smaller, lower-cost shoots such as documentaries and music videos.

Overall, the industry is still facing challenges in bouncing back from the impact of the strikes, but there is hope for a gradual return to normalcy in the coming months.
