Abigail Faces Unexpected Defeat in Civil War, Newcomers Fall Short of Victory

Abigail Fails to Sink Teeth into Box Office Receipts: A24’s Dystopian Action Film Claims No. 1 Spot for Second Weekend

The vampire ballerina may have failed to sink her teeth deep enough into the box office receipts, but the competition was fierce at the weekend box office. A24’s dystopian action film, “Civil War,” claimed the No. 1 spot for the second weekend in a row, bringing in an estimated $11.1 million domestically and a worldwide total of $48.2 million. Meanwhile, Universal Pictures’ horror film, “Abigail,” underperformed slightly, making $10.2 million and landing in the No. 2 spot.

With a reported budget of $28 million, “Abigail” still has a chance to make a profit for Universal. The film outperformed recent vampire-related films like “Renfield” and “The Last Voyage of the Demeter,” despite falling short of projections. The Top 10 at the box office was also filled with newcomers, including Guy Ritchie’s “The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare” and “Spy × Family Code: White,” which were overshadowed by the success of “Godzilla x Kong” and other sequels.

The Spring of Sequels continued to dominate the box office, with films like “Kung Fu Panda 4,” “Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire,” and “Dune: Part Two” all making appearances in the Top 10. Even a standout horror prequel, “The First Omen,” managed to secure a spot on the list. Overall, the weekend box office was a mix of new releases and familiar franchises, showcasing the diverse range of films currently captivating audiences.
